Yoga with love

Because the winter solstice is a time for reflection and a time for opening hearts to what’s to come, Blue Lotus Living is going to celebrate twice. Won’t you join me?

December 21
Join in on a community Yoga fundraiser being held at 6:30 p.m. at the Chester Basin Legion (25 Highway 12). The class is by donation with proceeds going to the Starfish Refugee Project or food bank donations going to the Lighthouse food bank. The class will include gentle postures, pranayama (breathing techniques), mediation and a drumming yoga nidra, and of course, Shavasana! There will be hot apple cider and treats for after the class. An RSVP is Not necessary. Teachers will include Amy, Nancy, DeNel, Cathy, and Scott. We hope to see you there to share in this lovely heart warming class and to celebrate the dark days and nights turning to light.

December 22
At 6:15 in the Sail Loft Yoga Studio, Cathy Guest and I will lead you in 108 sun salutations. Why 108, you ask? According to one yoga writer, Fernanda Grisetti, “the number 108 is considered both mystical and auspicious in many traditions. For example, there are 108 names for the Hindu god Shiva; there are 108 names for Buddha; there are 108 beads on a Catholic rosary; there are 108 beads on a Tibetan “mala” or prayer beads; there are 108 Sutras in the Yoga Sutras; and for a little math: 108 is twice the number 54, which is the number of sounds in the sacred Indian language of Sanskrit; it is six times the number 18, which is a Jewish number for good luck; and it is twelve times the number 9, which is the number of vinyasas (breath and movements) in one Sun Salutation. Additionally, each number has special significance: the number 1 means Higher Truth, 0 stand for Emptiness, and 8 represent Infinity.” The beauty in this, from my perspective, is that we can celebrate together, no matter how we come to yoga.

That, my friend, is peace on earth.
